Our Divisions

Three professional divisions form the backbone of the Ghana Institution of Surveyors, each dedicated to a distinct field of surveying practice.

The Ghana Institution of Surveyors organizes its professional membership into three core divisions, each representing a specialized branch of the surveying profession. These divisions ensure that practitioners can focus on their areas of expertise while contributing to a unified professional body. The divisional structure allows for tailored continuing professional development, specialized training programs, and focused regulatory oversight within each field. Members benefit from division-specific activities, networking opportunities, and resources that address the unique challenges and advancements in their particular discipline. This framework strengthens the profession by encouraging collaboration across specializations while maintaining high standards of practice within each distinct area of surveying.

The Land Surveying division concentrates on the measurement, mapping, and management of land and spatial data. Professionals in this division work with geospatial technologies, boundary determination, and cadastral systems that support land administration and property rights. Their expertise is fundamental to urban planning, infrastructure development, and natural resource management across Ghana. The division promotes best practices in geomatics and spatial data management, ensuring that surveyors remain current with technological innovations such as satellite positioning and geographic information systems. Through seminars and workshops, members share knowledge that enhances the accuracy and reliability of land information.

The Quantity Surveying and Valuation divisions address the financial and economic dimensions of the built environment. Quantity surveyors specialize in construction cost management, contract administration, and project financial oversight from inception to completion. Valuation surveyors focus on property assessment, market analysis, and asset valuation for various purposes including investment, taxation, and development planning. Together, these divisions ensure that construction projects are financially viable and that property markets operate transparently. Their work supports both public and private sector clients, from government infrastructure projects to individual property transactions, contributing to economic stability and growth.

The Estate Surveying division brings together professionals who manage, develop, and advise on land and property assets. These surveyors handle property management, real estate development, leasing, and investment analysis across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors. Their expertise bridges the gap between physical land resources and their optimal economic use. The division organizes regular continuing professional development sessions that cover market trends, property law updates, and emerging practices in real estate management. Members also contribute to policy discussions on land use, housing delivery, and urban development, helping shape the regulatory framework that governs Ghana's property sector.
